The cloak for my first Santa doll was made from dozens of neckties given to me by a number of well-known fashion designers that I was fortunate enough to work with during my career as a couture fashion buyer.

To this day, I still consider the Necktie Santa Doll to be my signature line.

Over the years, unique Santa dolls have been created with several ethnic identities to include Hawaiian, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Okinawan, African and Filipino.

Traveling to Asia and exploring flea markets has helped me immensely to find the perfect accessories to complement each theme.

After the 9/11 terrorist attack, I made an Uncle Sam Santa that was pretty popular.  In fact, there were 3 people trying to buy it before they even saw it… a testament to the intense emotions so many of us felt and continue to feel.

Sometimes I get the urge to make specialty items like Easter, Thanksgiving and Halloween Santa dolls. Somebody always seems to approach me each year to do something just for them — which, of course, makes me very happy.

Sitting Santa Dolls take the most time and effort because they require extra structuring and difficult accessorizing. I just wish I had extra hours in a day to do more of them. They’re so different from the standard look of my dolls because they are either sitting in a sleigh… or in a chair… or maybe right on top of a grandfather clock.

The Gallery and Couture Santa Dolls are created from garments that are not only beautiful, but actually elegant.  There’s something special about working with velvety fabrics and sequined silkiness.

One of the many challenges I’ve faced over the last couple years is finding reliable sources for the Santa doll head.  The porcelain head is difficult to find at reasonable prices and some of the vendors I’ve turned to have been a little disappointing.

An exception to this, however, has been my recent acquaintance with a local artisan (although she recently moved from Hawaii to the mainland), who makes fantastic clay heads.  They are so distinguishing that I’ve developed new lines around them and call them Papa Klaus and Mama Klaus Santa dolls.

I would be thrilled to have you take a look at the entire Santa Doll collection. You can check it out now if you’d like.
